Using the site
You may read the public site for personal, educational and historical research. Membership is required for forum participation and case-file submissions. You are responsible for activity through your account and for keeping your sign-in information secure.
Your contributions
You keep ownership of original material you submit. When you check the publication-permission box, you give Lost Places Society a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, review, reproduce, format and publicly display the approved material as part of the site, its archive and related promotion of that specific story or case. You must have the rights or permission needed to grant that permission.
Material left without publication permission may be held privately for editorial review or archive development, but it will not be placed on a public case page unless permission is later obtained.
Accuracy and attribution
Do not knowingly submit false information or misrepresent another person’s work as your own. Identify memories as memories, credit sources and correct a mistake when you discover one. The Society may edit formatting, spelling, labels, captions or private details while preserving the substance of a contribution.
Safety, privacy and lawful conduct
You may not use the site to harass people, expose private information, infringe rights, promote illegal activity, encourage trespassing or upload malicious code. The Community Guidelines are part of these terms.
Moderation and accounts
The Society may decline, edit, move, close, unpublish or remove material, and may suspend or close an account, when reasonably needed for safety, privacy, rights, relevance, accuracy, security or community health. The site is not obligated to publish a submission or keep every service available indefinitely.
Historical information and external links
The archive is provided for general historical and educational use. It may contain errors, incomplete records, conflicting memories and links to third-party sites. It is not legal, medical, genealogical or professional advice. Verify important claims with original records and qualified professionals.
Availability and responsibility
The site is provided on an “as available” basis. Features may change, pause or stop, and no guarantee is made that every page, upload or account will always remain available. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Lost Places Society is not responsible for indirect losses arising from use of the site or reliance on unverified content.
Requests and disputes
For an account concern, email members@lostplacessociety.com. For a correction, rights issue or takedown request, email hello@lostplacessociety.com or follow the contact process. Good-faith concerns will be reviewed before more formal steps are considered.
Changes
These terms may be updated as the archive and its features develop. Continued use after a posted update means you accept the revised terms.
